The Power of “What if…?” Coaching Questions and an Improv Mindset

When you focus on problems you will have more problems.
When you focus on possibilities you will have more opportunities.

~ Zig Ziglar

Workshop Objective
Introducing concepts and tools to transform your clients’ (and your own) approach to life and work.
In this experiential workshop, you’ll:

  • Explore and practise how to use powerful “What if…?” coaching questions with your clients, so they let go of their old, limiting thoughts, beliefs and stories about themselves and the world, choose more useful ones, and take inspired action.
  • Participate in some co-operative improvisation (or “improv”) games that you can use with your clients, so they transform their stories and experiment courageously with more resourceful, joyful ways of being. (Note: No improv experience is required!)
  • Become more mindful of and skilled at how you BE as a coach, how you manage your own mindset, and how you navigate change and uncertainty in your life and work.

Selina Wong is the HKICC’s VP for coach development. She is a solid, experienced HR professional with renowned MNCs in diverse industries. With a passion for supporting people to transform from good to great, she moved on to her coaching career and achieved her certified Meta Coach accreditation and certified Trainer from the International Society of Neuro Semantics. She facilitates various types of transformational coaching for senior executives and management teams about leadership transition, career development and personal development.

Kay Ross is the Head Tour Guide in “The Playground of Possibilities”. That’s her project about inviting people to ask themselves thought- and action-provoking “What would be possible for me if I…?” questions, so that they learn, grow, heal and thrive. Kay is also an improviser – she performs with a team of actors who create scenes on the spot, without a script, inspired by suggestions from the audience. So she teaches people how to approach life and business offstage with an improv mindset. For over 30 years, Kay has studied personal development, healing, bodywork (she trained in a methodology called Body Harmony), mindset, psychology, neuroscience, training and facilitation, improv, Applied Improvisation, public speaking, storytelling, business, marketing, etc. She also has extensive experience as a consultant and trainer about many of those topics.

Psychology theory tells us that our thoughts, beliefs and stories about ourselves and the world determine what we believe we’re worthy of and what we think is possible for us (or not). And all of that determines what actions we’re willing to take in the world. In related news, life is constantly changing and we don’t get a script, so an improv mindset is a useful tool.
