Message from the President
Dear HKICC Friends,
Did you invest your hard-earned money in the stock market? Or did you buy recently any property? In either case, you are likely to have lost a considerable amount of your savings due to the recent devaluation of your investment.
A few years ago, I 'lost' a lot of money, too. However, I didn't lose it in the stock or property market. I invested in building my coaching and training business and was on the brink of personal bankruptcy around 2 years after starting my company.
How can one still be 'happy' in such a situation? How do you know if keep going is the right thing to do or plain foolishness?

Message from the Executive Vice President

Life Coaching
By Anita Moorjani
In today's environment, where most coaches identify themselves as "Executive Coaches" or "Business Coaches", a Life Coach is rather rare; the title perhaps even a little cliched, particularly in a city like Hong Kong. I still get asked "What is a Life Coach?" It's easier to understand the role of a business or executive coach. Most still find it hard to understand why anyone would need a Life Coach, and how their life could benefit from having one.
As a Life Coach myself, perhaps my view is biased, but I would advocate that everyone could benefit from having a coach, including life coaches themselves. And the best way for me to answer the question of how one could benefit from being supported by a coach would be for me to use myself as an example, and explain how coaching has benefited me, both, in being coached as well as being a coach.

Ten Ways to Make Your Audience Explode with Excitement!
|
By: DawnMarie Vestevich
Think of the last time you saw a speaker give a stellar performance. You left inspired and exhilarated and so did others. All day afterwards, you found yourself telling other people about the talk and how on target it was. "They were remarkable." Literally. Are you shaking your head "yes?" Well, yes, there are stellar speakers out there. Thank heavens. More often than not, however, we sit in the audience thinking: "well, their information is good, but... I don't know. They're just not too interesting. I think they could use some public speaking training!"

Several years ago I had the opportunity to meet and work with an emerging speaker during an event in Las Vegas. That dynamic speaker was Kevin Bracy. In the years since, Kevin has taken his speaking career to incredible heights. Given his success and my insatiable desire to get the "secrets" to succeeding in so many areas, I asked him for his top 10 secrets to becoming a speaking superstar.
Before I reveal the 10 Secrets, let me tell you that up-shifting your ability to share ideas verbally will help you grow your business --- no matter what business you are in. With that said, here are the 10 Secrets, gifted to us by Kevin Bracy...

I heard this story...Two horses grazed peacefully in a pasture. Upon closer look, you could see that one horse was blind. The other, a chestnut mare, wore a tiny bell around her neck. The bell was there to let the blind horse know where the mare was at all times. The horse's owner had chosen not to put the blind horse down, but rather to let him live his best life with the assistance of the chestnut mare. Every morning and evening, the blind horse could follow the mare to and from the barn. The blind horse only had to listen and follow the tiny bell that the mare was wearing. The mare did not have to do anything special. She just had to be herself. Her presence and the tiny bell was enough to guide the blind horse in day to day life.

Presentation skills - the very term suggests that we're not naturally capable of communicating our ideas well. So, are some of us born lacking these skills? Or do they become blocked by traumatic childhood spelling bees and dictatorial supervisors? Whatever the case might be for you, I hope you'll find the following not-so-typical tips helpful for bringing out your best when presenting.
What's already appealing about your style?
Share one of your stories with a close friend or family member who supports you, champions you. Make it a topic you feel strongly about - a vacation punctuated with absurd situations, the day your first child was born, an 'aha' moment. Now ask them what's most engaging about your speaking style and graciously accept the compliment; drink it in. Maybe you didn't know you have a disarming smile, an aura of authenticity, a reassuring, persuasive voice. Let that be an effortless source of power and confidence for your next presentation.

Helen Revans
Certified Fearless Living Life Coach II and CoachU Graduate.
BSc Home Economics and PGCE.
How long have you been involved with HKICC?
I joined HKICC in November 2003.
What led you into coaching?
In April 2003 I came across a book called "Fearless Loving" written by Rhonda Britten the founder of the Fearless Living Institute. The book was life changing, her philosophy made perfect sense to me, her tools and strategies worked. From there I went on her website, saw that she offered a Coach Training Programme and there began my journey into the coaching world.

Dear Readers,
Sometimes change can look negative on the surface, yet with time we learn that space is being created for something new to emerge. In times of insecurity and uncertainty, we get to learn to become comfortable with the uncomfortable and with that anything becomes possible. When we learn to live with the uncomfortable, fear no longer gets to run our life; when we let go of how we think life should look, life is filled with possibilities and we become alive, creative, inspired. Today we get to choose how we respond to the financial crisis in the world - with fear, or acceptance of what is.
And, if you have challenges, if something is not working or is in missing in life, what better time to work with a life coach in order to discover the truth of who you are, to learn that you have everything you need and see that anything is possible now!
Have you ever wanted to speak up with more confidence and have fun doing it? Or desired to give a better presentation? Your fear of being seen and heard is real. Public speaking is the number one fear for many. Don't let it stop you. See our top ten tips for making your audience explode with excitement and, when you are ready to practise, contact Catherine Florent (profdevelopment

For Book Lovers
Robin Wong's book of the month recommendation is:
The Swordless Samurai - Leadership Wisdom of Japan's Sixteenth-Century Legend -Toyotomi Hideyoshi
edited by Tim Clark.
This is a story about the personal journey of one of the greatest military and civic leaders Japan has ever known. The book describes how this leader frequently applies the Art of War by the famous Chinese war strategist Sun-tzu to great effects.
Many of the traditional wisdom and principles can still be applied in today's business world. It is as relevant to the twenty first century leaders as it was then. |
