Meet our Coach Members

Susie Li
Principal, Coach House International

Tell us about your journey toward becoming a coach.
I started wondering about my life purpose 2 years after I started working.  Then, one day, I saw at a previous boss’ desk some promotional training materials in time management and stress management. I realized that I like learning and don’t mind training. When I left that company, my bosses gave me a book written by a career counselor. Some years later, I obtained a Master ‘s degree in Training and Human Resource Management.

I also researched which areas I wish to specialize in as training is a vast field. I found the Hong Kong International Coaching Community through a Google search. I wanted to learn what coaching was about and so I went to their Professional Development meetings regularly. I found coaching absolutely fascinating! I approached Charlie Lang of ProgressU Limited  in November 2004 to explore becoming a coach and he took me under his wing. Soon after I studied for Coach University’s Core Essential s Program to learn the fundamentals of being a coach. I am presently working for a US company as a Career & Family Consultant supporting international employees’ spouses in career coaching and transition coaching.

Who do you typically coach?
I support international employees’ spouses with career or transition coaching. I also support individuals in career coaching.

What makes you a great coach?
I am good at listening, and providing the space for my clients to brainstorm career possibilities that are right for them. I am excellent at empowering my clients by reflecting back to them their natural talents. I am good at coaching my clients to come up with a powerful CV, and am mindful of their goals.

Please share a really effective tool, process or psychometric assessment?
I ask my clients to tell me their personal stories that they are proud of, at work and outside of work. I ask them to describe the context of their personal stories, any challenges they had to overcome, how they overcame them, and the results. Their personal stories enable me to see some of their natural traits and skills so that I can reflect their greatness back to them.

What’s your favorite question to ask a coachee?
What do you naturally do well?

What is your greatest accomplishment… so far?
Having made a career transition to become a Coach. It takes enormous courage to believe in your dreams and to take the risk to realize them.

What do you do for fun?
My profession itself is fun because I meet new people all the time. It has been said that life is like a box of chocolates. Meeting new people and discovering their talents and uniqueness is exciting for me.

In my leisure time, I like to go to my yoga club to rejuvenate, and to explore activities that I have never done before, such as belly dancing, and pilates.

I also enjoy nature and like to explore or hike in scenic places with friends.
