Meet our Coach Members: Rixt Kuiper

Certified Executive Coach and published author, BA, Executive Style Limited
How did you enter the field of coaching?
In 2003 I left behind my job as a corporate trainer in the Netherlands and moved to the USA with my husband. This was a turning point in my life and career. I decided to attend the New York University in order to learn more about executive coaching. I realized that being an experienced communication and leadership trainer could be a helpful asset to executive coaching. One of my teachers inspired me to start my own business; soon after, senior executives in Fortune 500 companies were acknowledging and appreciating the added value of my coaching service.
In September 2007 I decided to move my business to Hong Kong.
What makes you a great coach?
The whole process of assessing and developing my client’s leadership style brings me fulfillment. Helping them to implement their improved leadership, as well as to express their vision in a genuine and convincing way is simply what I do best.
What, I think, sets me apart from other coaches is my analytical approach, my international experience and expertise; I’m certified in MBTI, REBT and Quantum Physics coaching. My clients highly value my personal and fundamental approach.
Do you have a favorite approach for executive clients?
Most of my clients benefit from ‘whole brain thinking’; they want to be more mindful and present in challenging situations. With my questions I assist them to analyze their own behavior, thoughts and feelings. I introduce them to simple mindful techniques, like meditation, which helps them to see the bigger picture, recognize patterns, make effective decisions and be more confident during hectic times.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
I’m very proud of 2 particular accomplishments:
- I’m a published author and my book/CD about stress-relief in the workplace has sold over 30.000 copies.
- During one of my projects at a very large and well-known US Fortune 50 company I coached a senior executive team, with members from the UK, India, China and the USA. The extensive training/coaching program was around leadership styles, executive presence and cross-cultural communication. All my skills and know-how came together during the group sessions in Shanghai and individual coaching in New York. I’m very happy to say that the company was very satisfied with the results and testimonials can be found on my website (http://www.executive-style.com/clients.asp)
What do you do for fun?
Spending time with my husband and son: playing with my 1-year-old makes my day. I’m a Yoga fan, run occasionally, and scuba dive while I’m on vacation. I have been dancing since my early childhood and I still love my weekly ballet class.
As VP-Executive Coaching, in what direction would you like to take the HKICC?
My personal mission is to make people more of aware what personal and professional development can do for companies. Coaching in Asia is relatively new and still emerging, compared to Europe and America, where coaching is well accepted and integrated into talent management. The HKICC can play an important role in educating executives on what results to expect from investing in executive coaching. When corporations make more use of coaches because they want to create environments where talent can flourish, then my mission will be complete.
