How long have you been involved with HKICC?
Nearly 2 years.
How would you like to see HKICC develop in the year to come?
I would like to see more initiatives that promote coaching in the region. The profession of coaching is still not recognized as it is in the West, and Hong Kong ought to be the coaching capital of Asia. I would like for the HKICC to organize with the help of sponsors a conference on coaching, with guest speakers from all coaching fields and all 4 corners of the world. Not only is there a need for awareness, but there is also a need for greater credibility to the profession of coaching.
What led you into coaching?
The need to connect on a deeper level with people. To raise individuals' performance as high as they can go and make them realize that they are their own source of inspiration and motivation.
What is your coaching niche?
I work with middle-managers on increasing the effectiveness of their communication with their staff, and on unleashing their potential by maximizing the use of their strengths.
Tell us something unique about your coaching style.
What sets me apart from all other coaches is the creative element that I bring into a coaching relationship. As a certified facilitator for LEGOR Serious Play?, I use its methodology with my coaching clients when they are open to it. The LEGO bricks act as a 3D visual representation of the coachee's goals, challenges and strategies. They also work as a catalyst to unleashing the creative mind and ultimately help people communicate visually their inner conflicts.
What is your favourite coaching tool?
Besides using the LEGOR Serious Play?, I also enjoy using role play. As I work with managers, it becomes rewarding for the coachee to enact how he would communicate his expectations to his staff. I find that it raises the coachee's confidence level dramatically and sets him in a position where he feels prepared to tackle any situation.
What do you do to build on your skills as a coach?
Besides working with my mentor coach, I take weekly teleclasses on topics ranging from managing to leading, to empowering our staff, to helping communicate a corporate vision for clients.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
My greatest accomplishment was taking the leap to enter the rewarding world of coaching.
What are you reading at the moment?
I am currently reading "The Spirit of Success: How to connect your heart to your head in work and life" by Executive Coach Norman Drummond and "Quiet Leadership" by David Rock, founder of Results Coaching.
What do you feel passionate about?
I love to surround myself with people and to learn from them. I am passionate about empowering others, whether it's at work, with clients, with friends or with my basketball teammates.
