Meet our Coach Members

David Mooijaart
VP Executive Coaching

What moved you to give your time so generously to make a contribution to HKICC?
It sounded smart to join forces with other coaches and create some instruments from which each of us can benefit. We have created a first version of an “Executive Coaches Directory” and are working on an executive coaching event first half of 2007.

What do you most like about the community? What do you least like about it?
I like the atmosphere, I learn a lot from those I have met until now. The least I like is the slow pace at times, but that could have to do with my personal lifelong struggle: impatienceJ.

What is your definition of coaching?
Serving another human by being with them.

What is your most memorable coaching moment?
This happened already a few years ago. A client seemed to be unmovable in terms of shifting his perspective on an issue that was in his way for already over 40 years. I was unable to make something move. I tried different strategies, asked other coaches for their opinion, but things stayed the same: more intellectual knowledge, no movement. As a last resort I on purpose got quite angry and unreasonable with him. I had never used this strategy before neither have I ever been trained to.
Totally unexpectedly he got even more angry, and things got out of hand even so far that with his left hand he hold my neck and with his right hand made some threatening Mohamed Ali (famous boxing champion) movements. After that he suddenly realized what he was doing and sat down and seemed totally lost. The next day we met again, he must have thanked me at least 10 times. That session changed his life fundamentally. I am proud I followed my instincts, it was the one most powerful coaching interaction I ever had with anybody.

What qualities do you think make a great Coach?
I bring a lot of energy, passion and movement to the coaching. That is my strength and also my weakness. I am currently being coached by a person I would describe as warm, great listener and wise.

What is your favourite book or CD?
I really love a series of books from a writer named Carlos Castaneda. I am always confused and inspired after reading his books.

What are your hobbies?
Coaching, meeting new people, discovering new cultures, exercise.

If you could be anyone or anything at all, what would you be?
I would be a master-trainer having designed my own training which inspires millions of people worldwide in experiencing fear, love, care, and confusion. I work with different cultures worldwide and be known for having impact on people’s life. I have stars in my eyes and I am known as a warm, elegant, powerful and passionate trainer, who is a bit crazy now and then.

What is one quality you admire most in a friend?
Caring and loving.

Who or what is most important to you?
My girlfriend. The most courageous person I know.

What is your greatest luxury?
I am living the life I always dreamed of.

What special quotes or words really inspire you?
There is one quote that really inspires me. It is too long to put down here, so I just quote the first sentence. It is from Marianne Williamson and often referred to as Nelson Mandela’s inauguration speech. “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate, our deepest fear is we are powerful beyond measure.” I find that VERY scary stuff. Hahaha
