Meet our Coach Members
Danny Moorjani
MPNLP (ABBNLP), (ANLP), C.Hyp (ABH)
How long have you been involved with HKICC?
I’ve been involved with HKICC in one way or another since it was originally conceived and set up as the HK Coaching Community and have watched it evolve into what it has become today. However, my active involvement has only been very recent when my organization joined as a corporate member at the start of this year. Shortly after that, I accepted a position on the Executive Committee as VP-Finance.
What led you into the field of NLP?
I’ve been interested in human behaviour for as long as I can remember, particularly in analyzing and modifying conditional responses. One weekend several years ago, I was sitting at home when my wife who is a life coach, handed me a print out of an eMail she had received. She said “I’ve just received this about neuro-something-or-other. It’s overly analytical for my style of coaching but it looks like something you would enjoy.” She was right and I haven’t looked back since.
What type of people do you work with?
There are two distinct categories. The first being marketing and sales professionals for whom I do sales and negotiation trainings.
The second is my work with therapeutic interventions. Here I work with individuals who are trapped in some form of self-destructive behavior - those individuals that are classed as un-coachable because of some underlying emotional trauma. Once these individuals are free from the downward spiral they have been trapped in, I either recommend they find a coach, or refer them back to the coach who sent them to.
Tell us something unique about your working style.
I work where most coaches wouldn’t want to go. In other words, I work with those who are uncoachable.
How is your average workweek split?
Currently I am allocating about 20% to trainings, about 50% to interventions (obsessions and trauma) and about 20% to research. The remaining 10% is dedicated to admin.
Describe your favourite tool/technique/psychometric assessment.
There are 2 that I find to be the most use for the type of work that I and my organization do. These are:
- the NLP Represential System Test
- DISC Personality Profiling System
The NLP Rep test though not commonly used, is in my opinion, one of the quickest ways to establish how another person likes to communicate. The Reps are: Visual, Auditory, Kinesthetic or Logic. The test determines their preferred style of communication, which then allows me to use their own preferred style to communicate with them. This allows for a clearer understanding of what is being communicated to them while minimizing the possibility for mis-understandings and resistance arising from confusion.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Professionally, there are two. One in the area of therapeutic interventions, and the other in the area business.
In my capacity as a therapist: An individual came to see me for a problem they had with substance abuse which they wanted to end. They had unsuccessfully been through 2 programs to help them stop and at least as many counselors over a 5 year period. Then the following week, they told me that they also had an eating disorder that had lasted over two years. Again, they had been to counseling and therapy but it had not helped the problem at all. In four months of therapy, this individual totally discontinued the substance abuse, and shortly after that, the eating disorder was brought under control. This was all done without the use of medication or institutalization.
In the case of my greatest business achievement, I used to work for a very large multi-national in the role of marketing & business development. It was in this position where I was able to leverage the NLP Rep system in negotiations with key customers as well as trainings for middle-management and front-line staff. This led to growth in business of over three thousand percent (3,000%) in a ten year period. The methodology has subsequently now been packaged into a training program that we call 4~3~2~one.
What music do you enjoy?
I usually have Soft Jazz or Soft Rock playing in the background.
What do you do for fun and relaxation?
3-D puzzles, the gym, hanging out with my best friend (who incidentally is my wife) and learning the new tricks my pet dog tries to teach me.
As a leader in HKICC, in what direction(s) would you like to take the organization?
I would like to streamline HKICC’s business and financial operations to be more efficient, operating more as a business. I would like to see its role being more clearly defined as an agency to facilitate information and resource pooling, and also to encourage members to bring proposals for mutually beneficial joint projects. While many members may not have the infrastructure to implement projects on their own, with the support of HKICC, projects that may not be financially viable as a stand-alone one could well work as part of something larger.
