AGM Highlights

By Michelle Gabbe

CHANGE was the theme of HKICC’s annual general meeting (AGM), which was held on Thursday evening, 26th April. Kicking off the evening was a 90-minute interactive presentation of the 6 Conditions to Change by certified Spiral Dynamics Integral Practitioners Ivy Ning and Lilian Wang. Being asked to apply the 6-conditions process to an issue requiring change in their own lives was a treat for the audience of mostly coaches, many of whom spend so much of their time facilitating the development of everyone but themselves.

Following the professional development program, outgoing President SK Shum highlighted HKICC’s expanded bilingual press coverage from the past year, including a television feature on life coaches on TVB Jade, a Chinese language radio interview, and the ongoing South China Morning Post Saturday edition article series authored by HKICC members. He also expressed pride that HKICC, together with Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource Management, had created a certificate course on coaching for HR managers who wish to enhance organizational effectiveness. With the recent membership survey and re-launch of the website, HKICC is ever becoming a more refined face of coaching in Hong Kong. President SK’s tenure ended on a very high note with the success of the first HKICC Executive Coaching Conference held in March. Thank you, SK!

VP-Finance, Angela Leung, reported on the first HKICC financial statement since the 2006 incorporation, with independent auditor CPA Julia Cheung providing a thumbs-up grading of ‘fair and accurate’. President SK then initiated the voting process for the 2007-2008 Management Committee, which was a brief exercise with only two positions contested. Presidential candidates Charlie Lang and Anita Moorjani were each given 1 minute to outline their vision for the coming year. Anita shared her view that our outer worlds are a reflection of our inner health and hoped to further increase the visibility of HKICC in the media, while Charlie expressed a desire to elevate the level of professionalism associated with life coaching in Hong Kong to that enjoyed by executive coaching members. Founding President Angela Spaxman and outgoing Immediate Past President Bonnie Chan were invited to continue on as Honorary Advisors. Finally, newly elected VP - Marketing, Anita Cheung, presented her vision of increasing awareness around coaching, and was widely appreciated not only for her role in revamping the HKICC website, but also for raising the bar on refreshments at our gatherings! It’s nice to know that we have our priorities in order.
