Enabling Educators in Rural
China with Coaching Skills
By Patrick Ng, Vice President of
Marketing
In the past 6 months, HKICC members
have partnered with LikeSE (Living Knowledge Social Enterprise) to deliver
seminars for the teachers development in Mainland China.
LikeSE is an NGO that supports the development of teachers in rural Mainland
China. Their core mission is to be a platform that empowers the education system
through the application of useful or innovative teaching methods, introduction,
knowledge and skills.
HKICC members involved in the project include: Fanny Chang, Summer Chan, Andrew
Choi.
This partnership was made possible by an introduction made by HKICC’s former
president SK Shum. HKICC is involved to promote the benefits and usefulness of
coaching to the general public. In this partnership, HKICC supports LikeSE in
capacity building through the sharing of professional advice, coaching know-how
and experience, and coaching training.

LikeSE’s “target groups” are teachers, educators, and educational administrators
and officials. There is the desire to integrate coaching into traditional
teaching.
While teaching is considered to emphasize theory, the transfer of skills and
knowledge; coaching is valued for its effect on inspiring individuals to develop
their best self, and helps learners to more quickly and effectively integrate
what they learn, thus bringing teaching to the next level.
The response from the participants is very positive so far.
In the coming 3 months, there are plans to conduct in-depth coaching workshops
for teachers in China. So we will be recruiting coaches who can speak Mandarin.
In the longer term, LiKeSE’s vision is to start a similar program for Hong Kong
teacher and educational professionals.
