PRESIDENT'S Message

Dear Reader,

I do hope you like the new look for the newsletter.

On 29 April, we held the HKICC AGM and that was a huge success with a large turnout of members, despite the inclement weather. Mary Anne Voli reported on the details of the meeting, and Fanny Cheung provided a snapshot in Chinese, so please be sure to read their articles in this issue!

Today, I’d like to talk about appreciation, particularly about appreciating where we are in our own life right now. How many of us actually take the time to appreciate where we are in our life’s journey? Or are we too busy pursuing our goals?

This reminds me of a story that really brings this point home, and I’d like to share it with you.

MEET OUR COACH MEMBER

Liz Luya

In late 2008 I left a corporate career after 22 years because I wanted to do something different. After leaving I had a long hard think about my business passion and realized it’s the power of making a difference.

Coaching is my outlet for doing that. I had been coaching at work for a number of years but decided to formally study under Results early 2009.

Whilst doing my study and starting my businesses I decided to give myself an extra challenge and trained to compete in the Gobi March, a 250 km ultra-marathon across the Gobi desert. The furthest I’d ever travelled on my own legs was 10 km so the training was tough. During the race I had severe problems with my feet and from day 2 (of 6) I was in extreme pain. What I learnt was that it really is possible to do what you want and it’s about putting your mind to work in the right places. Very liberating and hugely powerful now in the work I do with clients. .

APPRECIATION

EDITOR'S Message

Dear Reader,

“Appreciation is a positive emotion or attitude in acknowledgment of a benefit that one has received or will receive” (per Wikipedia).

Did you know that Appreciation is also close friends with Thankfulness and Gratitude? They’re almost inseparable, so when you keep one as a close companion, the other two automatically become your companion too. When they’re all huddling close, they form the roots of your happiness, and cause you to sprout happy and positive emotion and attitude, that end up lighting up the other person or people around you. The rest of the story is no mystery…and if you happen to need some inspiration, check out the AGM articles in this issue.

Accessing Appreciation

If you search for “appreciation” on the Internet, there are countless advice on how to show appreciation.

But that presuppose that a person already has that feeling of appreciation. I would posit that showing appreciation is one thing, and feeling it, is quite another. So what if the person cannot access or connect with that feeling of appreciation?
