Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2005/2006
by Deborah WY Ko
“Professional athletes talk all the time about my game. But your game doesn’t belong to you when you’re a team – there’s no such thing as my game, there is only the game. Your effort belongs to your teammates and theirs belongs to you, and they’re inextricable. The same is true of any gathering of people in one place, for any purpose….the definition of a team is a group of people who share the same aim, experience, and values…”
Lance Armstrong 7 times winner of Tour de France
Every Second Counts
Armstrong is not only a living legend but for me, he’s also a role model. It’s abundantly clear that the successful launch of HKICC at the AGM on the 26th April was largely due to the team effort of all the members and volunteer people. Together, they pooled their resources, talent, ideas and much more to make the evening truly historic, fun and memorable.
With over 70 attendants, the evening kicked off with a mingling activity which created a great buzz in the room. Bonnie Chan, our immediate past President led the election process. Angela Leung delivered a summary of the financial year. Then, a one minute speech was given by SK Shum and Charlie Lang who contested for the seats of President and Executive Vice President. Everyone waited with abated breath after the votes were counted; Bonnie remarked that it was rather like announcing the winner at Miss Hong Kong! Congratulations to SK Shum who was elected President and Charlie Lang as Executive Vice President. The hard work by all past Management Committee members was also acknowledged before the new board was introduced.

At the “idea generating buzz” session, the members sat in their small groups. They were aspiring or experienced personal or corporate coaches and each group was asked to brainstorm their needs and ideas for resources. Afterwards, each representative of the group gave a brief presentation. The ideas were wide-ranging; one of them which really resonated with me was to make coaching “fashionable, cool and credible”. As for resources, the lists were also extensive which included everything from lunch time seminars to establishing a practice coaching platform.
The astounding result of this significant gathering was the work of everyone involved. Each of you has unique talents and skills, so let’s all join hands to ensure the continual success of HKICC and create a brighter future together.
“It is so wonderful to know that the coaching community has grown so fast and well…I really felt amazed at the efficiency and energy that coaches have brought together at HKICC AGM. And I can feel truly that coaching is about Experiencing a Fruitful Life and about People Wellness. It makes no difference in our races; we all pursue greatness in ourselves and explore the greatest potential for our own life with the support of coaching”
- Chiu Wing Ching Joyce, Personal & Corporate Coach
“I just want to say well done on last night, it was great…I wish everyone all the best in their new positions”
- Jaime Simpson, Director, Teen Success Limited
“…Although there are distinct groups; new and experienced coaches, corporate and personal coaches, we all have so much in common in terms of the kind of support we want from HKICC…”
- Angela Spaxman, Career and Executive Coach, Spaxman Limited
“It was really encouraging to see the growth of the coaching community and to be in the presence of other coaches. There was a great sense of community.”
- Anita S. K. Cheung, Founder, Integrative Living
“The past AGM of HKICC got an unprecedented support & attendances from the members and friends in the training and coaching field. It is a good sign that HKICC ‘s professional status and presence in Hong Kong is being recognized.”
- Mau Chi-Wang, Managing Director, Paradigm Shifts Consultancy
